 George and Lizzie moved to Walnut Creek in 1907.
The 1920 census shows the Duncan family living on Pacific Avenue, Walnut Creek, Contra Costa Co., CA.
George was a volunteer with the National Guard in Fresno, CA, as a young man.  A Captain in U. S. Calvary during the Spanish-American War - mustered out in 1907.  Served in Philippine Islands.  He was Justice of the Peace in Walnut Creek, CA from 1912 until his death in 1933.  Also had a real estate office with Alfred Ormsby, his brother-in-law, in Walnut Creek.

One of first officers of the Linden Grange, which was formed on August 28, 1873.  Linden was named in 1862; originally calkled Foreman's Ranch. (From book written by Odd Fellows Lodge at Linden Public Library)

1840 census for Barry Co., MO, shows Hiram with two free blacks.  1860 census for San Joaquin Co., Douglas Twp., CA, shows Hiram with a black family living at the ranch:  Henry Turner, b. abt. 1835 in Arkansas; his wife, Lucy, born abt. 1837 in Virginia; and two children, Elvira, b. abt. 1853 and Henry, born abt. 1855 in CA.  Also listed on 1870 census for San Joaquin Co., Douglas Twp., CA.
