Melesina C. Trench Bio.
Melesina was born in Ireland, into a family of Huguenot descent. She was o rphaned as a small child, and was raised by her paternal Grandfather, t he Bishop of Waterford, until he died in 1779. Then her maternal Grandfath er, Archdeacon Gervais took over this responsibilty, and her education cou ld have been helped by his well stocked library. She married at 18 to Co l. Richard St.George, but was a widow by 22, with a young son. As a wid ow she travelled to France and Germany, where she started to write critic al letters on books, and some essays and poems.
In 1802 she was in Paris when the war resumed and was trapped in Franc e. It was now that she met and married Richard Trench, and they were sa id to be happy, ever though Napoleon imprisoned him.
The couple escaped from France to Dublin in 1807 with their 1st. son, a nd they eventually had a family of 8 boys and 1 girl. Only 3 survived to a dulthood, and 2 became noted authors.
She continued to write, but it was her letters and journals that her son R ichard Chenevix-Trench edited into a book called "Remains, Selections fr om Journals, Letters and Other Papers", and her Correspondance "Leadbeat er Papers", about 40 years after her death.
