The 3rd. earl's, 3rd.son, Brigadier-General John Stwewart, an MP for Wigto wnshire in 1707 Parliament, held Castle Sorbie from 1695 until his death there April 22, 1748. He was the castle's last resident, and is buried in the Old Kirkyard in Sorbie [Sorby].
