Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons -
John Allen Venner not qualified as a Veterinary Surgeon re their records.
John Allen Venner of Hurst Green, Hawkhurst, Sussex, name was included on the list of 'existing practitioners', which was set up under the 1881 Veterinary Surgeons Act. This allowed those without veterinary qualifications, who had been practising veterinary surgery for a number of years prior to the passing of the Act, to continue to practise. They were not allowed to call themsleves Veterinary Surgeons, or to give the impression that they were Members of the College. Therefore John was a Farrier/Veterinary Surgeon.

Directory - Kellys for Sussex -
1903 John A. Venner listed in Hurst Green as of Jacobsville Farm, Veterinary Surgeon and Farmer.
1905 - JAV not listed.

John A. Venner resided at Jacobs Well Farm from 1881 until 1905 (from Census listings and Kelly's Directory - see above note)

The farm seems to be known by 2 different names, i.e. Jacobs Well Farm and Jacobsville Farm at different times.

Sussex Record Society published a detailed tenement analysis (i.e. histories of each property) of the holdings of the Manor of Etchingham cum Salehurst.
In 1810 the property was owned by Richard Page and was described as a messuage, barn and certain lands called Jacobs Well at Hurst Green in Salehurst, containing by estimation 14 acres at a (quit) rent of 4d, late Hilders, formerly Chilleys. In 1824 the bulk of the property was sold to George French and in 1865 it was sold to the Hon Francis Pakenham. On the Salehurst tithe map c. 1841 it appears as plot number 331 and owned by George French and occupied by John Buss and was described as a homestead. (plot numbers as per tithe map 331 to 341)
