Inquisition on John's death was taken at Stowmarket on 19 Oct.1599. He owned a messuage and lands in Bacton and Cotton, held of the Queen as her Manor of Bacton, which he had inherited from John Pratyman his father. He owned two pieces of land, late Raynberds, in Bacton, tenements called "Gentlemans" and "Cobbles", and land "Bradmedow" in Bacton, held of Queen. Also a messuage, with curtilage, in Westhorpe, with divers lands, one called "Flabourewent", a tenement there called the "Harte", thirty acres in Fynnyngham called "Chambers", thirty six acres of pasture called the "Hall Close", eighty acres called "Ashmans" in Gislingham held of the Queen as her Honour of Eye, and lands in Cotton, Bacton, Fynnyngham, Westhorpe, Wickham, Stoke and Thornham Magna, held respectively of-
Sir Thomas Cornwallis, Anthony Russhe, Esq., and the Queen. Also Lands in Old Newton, Gipping, Dagworth, Bacton and Cotton, held of Robert Spring, Esq., and Sir John Terrell.
Will dated 21 Feb.1559-
I will that Margaret my wife shall have, in recompense of hir durye, hir dwellings in my mancon with the occupation of all the londes belonging, and my tenement , called Cobbes duringe naturall life. John Pretyman my eldest sonne shall have my tenement in Cotton called Holmes with londs belonging, now in the tenure of Hewghe Gage, also my tenements, lands and underwoods in Wyckham, Fynnygham, Thornham and Stoke, a tenement in Bacton called Bownsers and a close called Compence and Gipping Laylonde close. Thomas Pretyman my sonne shall have, after the death of Margaret my wife, my mancon that I now dwell in called David Jones, my tenements and londes called Cobbes, my tenement with londes called Gentlemans, lands, tenements and meadowes in Newton called Russons, my close in Gislingham called Ashemans,and my close called Compence [except that before bequeathed to John my son]. I will that Thomas my sonne shall have Philipp's ffelde and the Gresse close and Wilbone medowe as it lyeth within the towne of Cotton, he to enter into all seid londes when he comes to the age of 22 yeres. For defaulte of issue, lawefullye begotten of his body, I will seide tenements and londes remeyne unto John and William my sonnes and ther heyeres, to be equallye devided between them. Unto William my sonne my tenements and londes in Westhorpe, Wyverstone, Walsham and Blacktone, except what before willed, and a close in Gislingham called...He to enter said londes,&c.,when he comes to the age of xxiij yeres. For default of yssue of his body these to remeyne to John and Thomas my sonnes. Residue to my exector, and also the occupieng of all londes untill seid sonnes to lawfull age.

Muskett stated that Thomas submitted in 1588 to defence against Armada. On 9 April 1601, the inquisition on the death of Thomas Pratyman, yeoman was held.
"He held a close called "Ashmans" containing 60 acres in Gislingham, 2 messuages, 2 cottages, 4 gardens, 60 acres of land, 20 acres of meadow, 120 acres of pasture and 4 acres of wood in Bacton, Cotton, and Newton." By Charter dated 8 September 1600 he enfoeffed John Pretyman of Heasley, Gent, and Thomas Harwel of Felsham, Gent, [lands & tenements already conveyed to Fyrmin Denny, Esq., & John Pretyman, Gent, being excepted] in Ashmans in Gislingham to his own use for life, and then to his heir of his body begotten, and failing such heir, to the use of Robert Pretyman, his 2nd.son & heir of his body begotten, and failing heir to these to John Pretyman his third son & heires of his body, and for lack of such use and that of his right heirs for ever.
