1771 - Nelson joins the Navy on his Uncle's ship Raisonable
1773 - April to November, joins the Carcass, one of two vessels send to seek a passage through the artic
1777 - 5th April, Passes his Lieutenant's examination. Appointed to HMS Lowestoffe on the West Indies station
1778 - December. Promoted to Commander and given his first command, HMS Badger
1779 - Promoted to Post Captain
1780 - Naval Commander of the San Juan River attack on a Spanish fort. Returns home sick.
1781 - Captain of Albemarle in the North Sea.
1782 - April, sails to Canada. November, joins Admiral Lord Hood at New York
1783 - His attack on Turks Island, West Indies, fails. July, returns to England. (September, end of American War)
1784 - Captain of the frigate HMS Borcas to the West Indies
1787 - Married Frances Nesbit
1793 - January, appointed Captain of the 64 gun battleship, Agamemnon. Meets the Hamiltons in Naples
(Mr. Hamilton was the British Ambasador in Naples)
1794 - February, a capture of the Island of Corsica. July, loses sight in right eye at the siege and capture of Calvi
1796 - Appointed Commodore
1797 - February 14th, Battle of Cape St. Vincent. Knighted and promoted to Rear Admiral of the Blue. July, loses right arm during Battle of Santa Cruz, Tenerife
1798 - August 1st, Victory over the French at the Battle of the Nile where he is wounded and he is created, Baron Nelson of the Nile.
1799 - February, promoted to Rear Admiral of the Red. June, created Duke of Bronte
(growing scandal of his affair with Emma Hamilton)
1801 - Promoted to Vice Admiral of the Blue. Separates from wife to be with Emma, Lady Hamilton. Sent to the Baltic under Admiral Parker. Victory over the Danish Fleet at the Battle of Copenhagen.
1803 - Joins HMS Victory off Toulon as Commander in Chief in the Mediterranean.
Blockages the French Fleet until early 1804.
1804 - Promoted to Vice Admiral of the White.
1805 - March to May, French Toulon Fleet and the Spanish from Cadiz escape to West Indies. Nelson persues. June, the combined Fleet re-sale for Europe and enter Cadiz. July, Nelson reaches Gibraltar. August, he returns to England. September, in HMS Victory with the Fleet off Cadiz. October 21st, the combined French and Spanish Fleets are defeated at the Battle of Trafalgar. Nelson is shot by a sniper and dies at about 4.30 p.m. December 5th, Nelson's body arrived back in England on the Victory.
1806 - 4th to 7th January, He lies in State at Greenwich. 9th January, burial in St. Pauls Cathedral

Horatio Nelson learned to sail at Brancaster, Nfk in his youth.
Horatio Nelson's Grandfather, father and brother all served as Rectors of All Saint's Chuch, Hilborough.
So, when he was elevated to the peer age he took the title 'Baron Belson of the Nile and Hilborough'.
Horatio Nelson visited Wolterton Hall (home of the Walpole family who his mother was related to) during the years of 1787 and 1793
