Individual Note:

George 5th Viscount Townshend inherited Tamworth Castle and its estates in 1770 upon the death of his mother.
George spend much money on improving the Castle and was declared bankrupt on his death.
He became 2nd Marquis in 1807 and died aged 56 in 1811.
On his death the Castle was sold to a solicitor, John Robins. It is thought JR had helped the Marquis with financing the Castle's restoration.

George Ferrers - 3rd Marquis Townshend was disinherited when his marriage to Jane collapsed after only one year and his younger brother Charles inherited their father's estate. George lived in exile in Switzerland.

We have Jane as his wife of only one year, but elsewhere, she is referred to as Sarah Dunn Gardner......? -
