William was born in Pollington, Yorks and married in Snaith, Yorks, he was a sailor and died aged 37 of smallpox. He is buried in Rawcliff, Yorks.

There is no street address in this census but in both the 1881 and 1891 census the family are living next to the 'Anchor Inn' in Whitgift.

Joseph's occupation is stated as Wheelwright and joiner
By 1881 the only children left living at home were Joseph Lawrence, aged 14 years
and George William Lawrence, aged 22 years.
By 1891 census George was living 5 houses away with his own family.
In 1871 two wheelwright apprentices were living with the family - Frederick Bullars , aged 19 and Frederick Harrison, aged 17 years.
The Lawrence family lived in Ousefleet, Yorks before moving to Whitgift circa between 1859 and 1860.
