Burial: Date: 25 OCT 1888
Place: All Saints Churchyard, Vange, Essex
Individual Note:
Charles was the only son of four children born to John and Eliza at Blossoms Farm in Hadleigh.
He carries on the family tradition of farming. In 1881 Charles is at Vange Hall, newly married with a young family.
In the year of 1882 Charles is farming not only Vange Hall but Shonks Farm as well . His children are possibly educated at the local village school.
Pneumonia takes his life unexpectedly in 1888.
His children are Elected to Orphanages, sureties had to be obtained for their admittance.
Had he have been a poor man his children would have gone to the workhouse.
After the death of Charles, Vange Hall was sold, and the land turned into Brickfields.
The fate of Shonks Farm was to have a housing estate built on the land.

(Porters Town was an area of new housing that commenced 1870s - a grid of roads - Coleman Street being one of them. It was the expansion of Prittlewell down towards the sea, i.e. the South End of Prittlewell - this is how Southend on Sea got its name. Perhaps as Richard and family were there for the 1871 census the roads may not have been named or any house numbers available - or perhaps just that the enumerator just entered the area a habit I have come across before with census data...? ) (Certainly Richard and Elizabeth with their 2 young daughters chose to live in a new modern house)
